In their own words

The former students below said it better than I could. Pick any note to read the whole thing — several went on to Harvard and to careers in engineering and software.

Caitlin, former student
Dr. Hurley is a fantastic teacher and tutor. I took two years of math and two years of computer science with him. I was often in his classroom during my free periods because the one-on-one tutoring was incredibly helpful. No other teacher that I’ve had has been able to explain concepts in such a clear and effective way. Dr. Hurley is far and away the best teacher I have ever had; he’s kind, helpful, and devoted to making sure his students succeed, and he knows what he’s talking about.

Two more that didn’t come from me

In the press

“…you’d want to find a way to take a math, physics or computer class from him.”

In 2016, a columnist for TCPalm wrote about a commencement speech the senior class had asked me to give, and built the column around calling it a “million-dollar commencement speech.” He’d never met me — he just read the speech.

I keep it around not to brag (okay… maybe a little), but because a stranger had no stake in saying any of it, and said it anyway.
